Yao 8 Pool Club is a late-night pool hall on Charles Street in Mount Eden, a few minutes from Kingsland, Newmarket and Balmoral. Chinese 8-ball and billiards tables run at $23 an hour, we have a full-size snooker table at $38, and private mahjong rooms and karaoke booths out the back. Our cash-prize Chinese 8-ball singles event, from 3pm. Entry is $20 and capped at 16 players, with cash, table credit and a certificate for the top three. We share the place with a few resident cats, and they've become as much a part of Yao 8 as the tables. They have their own enclosure by the front desk — plenty of height to climb, and a quiet lower level to disappear into when the hall fills up and the noise picks up. 球房还住着几只常驻猫咪，如今它们已和球台一样，成为大四喜的一部分。它们在前台旁有专属空间，上层可以攀爬，下层安静隐蔽，人多喧闹时便可躲进去休息。
They're the thing regulars mention most. People turn up for a frame of eight-ball and spend half the night at the glass instead — which we've made our peace with. 常客们提得最多的就是它们。不少人本是来打球，结果大半个晚上都待在玻璃前——我们早已见怪不怪。
Down the track we'd like to open the space up properly as a cat cafe. For now they stay behind the glass, which keeps them relaxed and keeps the tables clear. 未来我们希望将这一区域正式打造成猫咖。目前它们仍在玻璃后活动，既让猫咪安心，也让球台保持整洁。
